AJR’s maternal grandfather was Meyer Max Marvald (the son of Israel Marvald/Merwald and Rachel/Ruchla Lindenbaum). Meyer was born in New York, to Jewish parents from Liuboml, Ukraine. Israel was the son of Meyer Marvald and Bessie.

AJR’s maternal grandmother was Lillian Friedman (the daughter of Isidor Friedman and Helen Gruenstein). Lillian was born in Pennsylvania, to Slovak Jewish parents. Isidor was the son of Elia Friedman and Celia.
