Sam Colback: Brother of Ninja Warrior star dies while snorkelling in Albany.

The brother of an Australian Ninja Warrior star has tragically died after snorkelling alone in Western Australia.

Sam Colback, 24, is believed to have drowned at Muttonbird Island.

His body was recovered on Monday.

His mother Lisa told the ABC that the last time she had seen Sam was when he had left for a camping trip on November 29.

Zed Colback, who appeared on multiple seasons of Australian Ninja Warrior, paid tribute to his brother on Thursday.

Speaking to 7News, Zed, a rock climbing instructor, said his family were shattered by the death, adding that he wished he could go on one last adventure with Sam.

“You’re never at the time thinking you’ll look back at those moments as (some of the final) memories of someone,” he said.

“We took every chance to get out and do something. We were on the same wavelength.”

Lisa Colback said her son was a “kind” “quirky” and “adventurous” soul who would often “go bush”.

But she began to worry when she hadn’t heard from him in several days.

“You sort of stand down for a couple of days and breathe and then it starts up again, we did action a plan but then there was no cause, [we thought] Sam was off on one of his adventures,” Ms Colback told the ABC.

“He’d just go bush and loved to live off the land, catch and kill … that’s just his nomadic spirit.”

Sam was one of 13 siblings and his family are well-known Albany residents.

He would often be seen busking with people on the street in Albany, Perth, Fremantle and Adelaide.

He was described as a free spirit who loved Muttonbird Island and saw it as his “playground”.

The area has waves coming from both directions and Sam could swim to the bottom of the channel for “minutes on end”, according to his brother Josh.

Writing a tribute on Facebook, Josh said: “Through Sam’s 24 years of life he brought a huge level of care and kindness everywhere he went,” he wrote.

“He had a love for the unlovely and his heart cried for those who sat on the fringes and in the shadows.

“If he wasn’t playing his djembe (drum) on the corner of some street with some characters, he might be with his friends and family, making them laugh and watch as he backflipped, juggled something dangerous or swung out of a tree.

“He was the entertainer who brought joy to everyone around him while at the same time had people questioning if he was still in one piece.”

A funeral for Sam will be held in Albany. A GoFundMe collection has be started to help the family cover the costs.
