Where will Black Stalin be buried? Burial site and Find a Grave details

Black Stalin, a stage name for Leroy Calliste, was born in San Fernando on September 24, 1941.

He was a well-known calypsonist from Trinidad and Tobago who was known for his lyrics criticizing the persecution of European colonists.

In 1979, Caribbean Man and Play One helped Black Stalin win the title of National Calypso Monarch. He’d reclaim the title in 1985, 1987, 1991, and 1995.

He was named Calypso King of the World in 1999 after winning the Calypso Monarch competition five times. Stalin was dubbed Calypso King of Kings in appreciation of his performance of “Black Man Feeling to Party,” “Wine, Boy” (also known as “Wine, Dhanraj, Wine”)

He won the title once more in 1985 with “Ism Schism” and “Wait, Dorothy.” In addition to all the honors, titles, and prizes related to calypso, Calliste also won the Hummingbird Medal (Silver) at the 1987 National Awards ceremony.

In addition, he received an honorary Doctor of Letters (DLitt) from the University of the West Indies in 2008.

Before starting to sing calypso in 1959 at the Good Shepherd Hall in St. Madeleine, he was a limbo dancer. However, he didn’t join a calypso tent until he joined the Southern Brigade in 1962.
